Why I Chose an Integrated Degree + UPSC Programme?

Ever since I decided that I wanted to become an IAS officer, I had one question in mind: Why should I wait until graduation to start preparing?

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is not just another competitive exam. It demands a deep understanding of society, governance, economics, history, current affairs, communication skills, and analytical thinking. These qualities cannot be developed overnight. They require years of systematic preparation.

That is why I chose an integrated Degree + UPSC programme.

Instead of treating my degree and UPSC preparation as two separate journeys, I can now pursue both together. While my university classes build my academic foundation, my UPSC coaching develops the knowledge, discipline, and answer-writing skills needed for competitive examinations.

The biggest advantage is time. Most graduates spend one or two additional years preparing after completing college. By integrating the two, I save valuable time and enter the competition much earlier.

Another major benefit is consistency. Learning becomes a continuous process rather than a last-minute rush. Subjects such as Political Science, Economics, History, Sociology, Public Administration, and English communication complement both university examinations and UPSC preparation. One reinforces the other.

The programme also keeps me connected to current affairs throughout my three years. Daily newspaper discussions, editorial analysis, mock tests, personality development sessions, and regular interaction with experienced mentors help me build the habits expected of a future civil servant.

Perhaps the greatest advantage is that the programme prepares me not just for the IAS, but for a wide range of opportunities. Whether it is UPSC Civil Services, State PSCs, SSC, Banking, RBI, CAPF, or other government examinations, the knowledge and skills acquired during these three years provide a strong foundation.

Even if my first attempt at the Civil Services Examination is unsuccessful, I graduate with a recognised degree, a solid academic background, and the confidence to compete in multiple prestigious examinations.

For me, this is not simply about clearing an exam. It is about shaping myself into a capable, informed, and responsible public servant.

Three years in college will pass anyway.

The real question is: When I graduate, will I only have a degree—or will I be ready to compete for my dream career?

I chose to graduate with both.
