Why is this news?

The Congress has questioned the 10-day delay in formally proroguing Parliament after the Monsoon Session was adjourned sine die on 13 August 2026.

Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned sine die on August 13, but formal prorogation had not taken place. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh termed the delay “abnormal” and questioned whether the government was trying to gather the two-thirds majority required for a possible Constitution Amendment Bill relating to delimitation in a Special Session.
